Chairside technique
How to use teeth whitening gel syringes comes down to three things: a protected field, a correctly prepared syringe and a thin, even layer of gel. This guide walks trained providers through single and dual-barrel teeth bleaching gel syringes, how much gel to dispense, splitting a syringe between clients, storage and common fixes.
Short answer: Isolate and cure a gingival barrier first. Prepare the tip, purging dual-barrel gel as directed, apply a thin layer to the front surfaces, and run the labeled cycle. Professional use only.
- Isolate and cure the barrier before any gel
- Dual-barrel: attach the tip, purge, then apply
- Thin, even layer on the front surfaces only
- Recap straight away and store as labeled
Know your syringe
Teeth bleaching gel syringes: which type are you holding?
LaserGlow professional hydrogen peroxide gels come in two syringe formats. Check which one you have before you set up.
| Gel | Syringe type | Fill | Yield | Gingival barrier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 16% HP | Single syringe, premixed | 1.2 mL | Up to 2 clients | Required |
| 25% HP | Single syringe, premixed | 1.2 mL | Up to 2 clients | Required |
| 35% HP | Single syringe, premixed | 1.2 mL | Up to 2 clients | Mandatory |
| 36% HP | Dual-barrel, mixes in the tip | 1.2 mL | Up to 2 clients | Mandatory |
| 44% HP | Dual-barrel, mixes in the tip | 5 mL | Up to 3 clients | Mandatory |
The handling steps differ only at the start: single syringes are ready to apply, dual-barrel syringes need a mixing tip and a purge. Why LaserGlow uses each format is covered in dual-barrel vs single-syringe whitening gel. Professional use only, for trained providers.
Setup
Before you use the syringe: isolation comes first
Most problems blamed on the gel start with isolation. Set the field up before the syringe is opened.
- Screen the clientCheck for sensitivity, recession, restorations and anything that needs a dentist first, and record the starting shade.
- Retract and dryPlace a soft cheek retractor and control moisture as your protocol directs.
- Place and cure the barrierApply gingival barrier along the gumline and cure it as directed. It is required with every LaserGlow HP gel.
- Inspect before gelCheck the barrier for gaps at every margin. No gel goes on until the field passes inspection.
The full isolation checklist is in soft tissue isolation teeth whitening.
Step by step
How to use teeth whitening gel syringes chairside
These steps cover the syringe itself. Your gel’s own instructions always take priority over any general guide.
- Check the labelConfirm the strength, expiry and storage condition of the syringe in your hand, and read its cycle directions.
- Prepare the tipSingle syringe: remove the cap and fit the applicator tip if one is supplied. Dual-barrel: attach the specified mixing tip until it locks.
- Purge dual-barrel gelPress out the small amount the instructions direct onto gauze so both components flow evenly before anything touches a tooth.
- Apply a thin, even layerDispense with steady pressure across the front surfaces of the teeth in the smile zone, keeping the tip off the barrier and soft tissue.
- Start the cyclePosition the light if the gel calls for one and run the labeled cycle time. Watch the client throughout.
- Remove and reassessRemove the gel as directed, check comfort and tissue, and only then decide on another cycle.
Stop the session if the client reports sharp pain, burning gums or heat, or if the barrier lifts. Cycle length and stop conditions are covered in how long to leave whitening gel on.
Getting the most from each syringe
How much gel to use and splitting a syringe between clients
Dispensing technique decides both results and cost per client.
Less gel, better control
A thin layer that covers the front surface is enough. Extra gel does not whiten faster; it pools at the margins, finds gaps in the barrier and empties the syringe early.
Over-dispensing is a common reason a provider gets fewer clients from a syringe than its rated yield.
Using one syringe for more than one client
LaserGlow 1.2 mL syringes are rated for up to 2 clients and the 5 mL 44% syringe for up to 3. Never apply gel from a tip that has touched a client’s mouth to another client; follow your infection-control protocol and the product’s tip and recapping directions.
The yield math is in how many clients per whitening gel syringe.
After the session
Recapping, storage and common syringe problems
Good handling after the session protects the next client’s results.
Recap right away
Exposure to air and light shortens working life. Recap a single syringe immediately and remove used dual-barrel tips as directed.
Store as labeled
Storage is product-specific; the 36% dual-barrel is labeled for refrigeration. Check expiry before every session.
Does teeth whitening gel expire? →Uneven dual-barrel flow
If one side flows faster, stop, replace the mixing tip and purge again. Never apply gel that looks streaked or unmixed.
Patchy results
Usually uneven coverage, saliva contamination or gel removed too early. Reassess technique before raising strength.

How do you use a teeth whitening gel syringe?
Isolate the gums and cure a gingival barrier first, prepare the tip, purge dual-barrel gel as directed, then apply a thin, even layer to the front surfaces and run the labeled cycle.
Professional syringes are for trained providers only.
Do you need to purge a dual-barrel whitening syringe?
Yes. Purge the amount the instructions direct onto gauze so both components flow evenly before you apply any gel.
How much whitening gel should I put on each tooth?
A thin layer that covers the front surface. Extra gel does not speed results and raises the risk of soft-tissue contact.
Can one whitening gel syringe be used for two clients?
LaserGlow 1.2 mL syringes are rated for up to 2 clients and the 5 mL 44% syringe for up to 3, following infection-control and tip directions.
Do you brush your teeth after whitening gel?
Follow the aftercare you give the client. Most protocols advise gentle brushing with a soft toothbrush and avoiding staining food and drinks for the first day or two.
Can I use professional whitening gel syringes at home?
No. LaserGlow 16% to 44% hydrogen peroxide gels are for trained providers with a gingival barrier. Use a home-use product instead.
Stock the right syringe for your chair
